You can use JCE to upload your images one by one, or you can FTP en masse to the folder : /images/stories/. I have no idea why Joomla has a folder called "stories," but I haven't cared enough to find out. If you upload images anywhere but /images/stories/, these images won't appear as "Insert" options in your JCE image manager window.
KEY POINTS
- The image you want to upload must be pre-formatted and pre-sized for it’s intended use and stored on your personal computer. The name of the file canNOT include any spaces or symbols and must end in .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .gif. (Otherwise, it will not display in some browsers.)
- Optimize your images for download speed. Your website cannot be too fast, and most websites are too slow.
UPLOAD + INSERT
- Place your cursor in the editor window where you would like the image to go. You are now ready to upload the image.
- Click the
icon to launch the Image Manager window.
- Click the
icon and click browse to locate the image on your computer. Next, click "go" (Joomla 1.0) or in Joomla 1.5 click "upload" and wait until the image shows up in the "details" window. Then, click cancel as the image has been successfully uploaded.
- Scroll in the list of files and identify your image by clicking on it until it is highlighted. The “Details” window should populate so that you see the image details appear.
- Change the "Alignment" from "left" to "default"
(if you are an advanced CSS scripter, you can play with alignment.
Otherwise, stick with default.
- For Joomla 1.0 Change the hspace and vspace if you want there to be less than a 5 pixel padding surrounding your image. In Joomla 1.5 this will be the Margins. Change the top, left, right, and bottom margins to reflect the amount of padding you want around your picture.
- Click Insert.
-

FTP + INSERT
- After uploading your images via FTP to the images/stories folder (subdirectories ok as well), launch your Image Manager and start with Step 4 above.
