Add Menu Link
Sunday, 17 February 2008

Want to link to a content post from one of your menus?

  1. In the Joomla top navigation bar, you will see "Menu"
  2. Rollover "Menu," and click on the appropriate menu. Hopefully they are clearly named.

  3. * Menumenu always contains a link to your homepage (whether it's published or unpublished). Joomla requires this.
    * Some websites may have multiple menu systems. Either ask your developer or click around until you find the menu system that contains the links you are looking to add to.

  4. Click "New"
  1. Chances are you are linking to either "Link - Static Content" or "Link - Content Item." How do you know?
  2. If, when you added the content, you specified a Section and Category, choose "Link - Content Item." If, when you added content, you did not select Section or Category, choose "Link - Static Content."
  3. Click "Next"
  4. Fill in the following fields:

  5. * Name: This is the text that will show up as the link to your content. Keep it short (3 words max, 2 words or word better)
    * Content To Link: Click on the page to which it will link.
    * Parent Item: If you would like this link to be second tier (i.e., only visible after user clicks on a first tier navigation link), click on your menu item's respective first tier.
    * Order: This is handled after the link is published.
    * Access Level: Does your website have a "member" area? if so, should this menu link be only accessible to users after they've logged in? If so, choose "registered" rather than "public."
    * Published: Are you ready to publish this link? If so, leave it "yes." If not, change it to "no."

  6. Save
  7. Use arrows to move the menu link up or down.

NOTES:
A drawback of Joomla is that it currently does not allow you to change a menu link after it's been created. If ou need to link to a different page, you need to delete the incorrect menu link and create a new one from scratch.
