Add Events using JCal Pro
Tuesday, 04 March 2008
This post applies to JCal Pro extension only. If you're using 1 of the dozens of other Joomla Calendar extensions, this tutorial won't help you.

Add Single or Recurring Event Manually

  1. Above the Control Panel in the top menu, choose Components > JCal Pro > Manage Events.
  2. Here you can either edit an existing event, or create a new event by clicking the "ADD" button in the top right corner.
  3. Required fields include Title, Category, Date, and Time Start. Everything else is optional.
  4. If the event repeats, you can choose "recurring." For example, if an event repeats every Friday night, choose the following:
    - Repeat Method: Repeat every [7] [days] . End Date is optional.

Import Many Events at Once

JoomlaSimple is the first (as far as we know!) to offer a bulk import tool for JCal Pro. Before using this tutorial, you'll need to install the import function by downloading the hacked files and FTPing them to your server. Here are the detailed install notes .
  1. Create your CSV file with the following fields in this order. Field names do not matter. Field order does matter.
    • Title (Required)
    • Category ID (Required - get this # from your Events Category List in JCal Pro Menu)
    • Date (Required)
    • Start Time (Required)
    • End Time (NOT REQUIRED)
    • Description (Required)

    * Excel does NOT = CSV. You can create a CSV file using Excel, but the "Save As CSV" doth not a true CSV file make.
  2. Above the Control Panel in the top menu, choose Components > JCal Pro > Import.
  3. Select your file and choose import. If you get an error, reasons could be that either required data is missing or your file is not a proper CSV file. Click here to download a csv starter template.
