Add Content
Sunday, 10 February 2008

Adding Content to your Joomla website is actually a 2-step process. You have to create the Content and a Menu link from the Menu Manager.  If you publish the post, but don't publish the Menu item, your website will not appear on your website. This post covers Adding Content. The JoomlaSimple tutorial on adding menu links is here.

  1. Control Panel: Choose either All Content or Static Content depending on your lead Joomla engineer's instructions.
  2. Click New
  3. icons_newcontent.jpg
  4. Determine how you want to split up your content into Intro Text and Main Text (does not apply to Static Content)
  5. Place your cursor in the Intro Text or Main Text window exactly where you want to paste your content. "Copy" the content from the source file (usually MS Word, an Email or another website)
  6. Choose your method below from the "Copying and Pasting Text" to paste a format (or reformat) your text, links , bullets etc.
  7.  icon_save.jpg

Copying and Pasting Text
  • If you are pasting text straight from MS Word: use the button icon_word_paste.jpg to launch a new window where you should paste.

Why? If you copy and paste from Word directly into the Joomla editor window, it will add unwanted code behind the scenes and it will be impossible for you to control. Your fonts will be messed up, and you will be miserably unable to change it.
  • If Paste From Word doesn’t work (you will know!) and you are stuck – you have to use Paste as Text by clicking on this icon icon_text_paste.jpg. The bad news? You will lose all bold, italics, links, paragraph breaks and other formatting. Good news? You can likely readd it within a few minutes using the text editor controls.
  • If you have access to a junior HTML coder, there is an button where you can access the code directly and fix any problem icon_html.jpg. We know that HTML coders can sometimes be hard to come by.

! TIP: Click "Apply" at any time to save your changes and remain in the edtor screen.
